6. NINGQIANG — AN EXOTIC CARBONACEOUS METEORITE FROM CHINA
C3-UNGR
Shanxi, China (32°55'30'N., 105°54'24"E.)
Fell January 25,1983 / TKW: 4.6 kg
This most unusual meteorite has been reclassified on three separate occasions since it fell on June 25, 1983. There are only 14 C3-UNGR meteorites on-record and Ningqiang is the sole witnessed fall. Four fragments of Ningqiang with a total weight of 4.6 kg were recovered following the Ningqiang event of June 25th, 1983 — but more than a kilo of this amount is unaccounted for. The total weight of the other 13 C3-UNGRs is just a bit more than three kilograms. An extremely rare offering.
