43. EL HASSAN OULD HAMED 002 — COMPLETE SPECIMEN
L4
Tiris Zemmour, Mauritania (25°54’48” N, 7°30’43” W)
Possible Fall November 6, 2021 / TKW: 5.45 kg
Numerous residents in the Dakhla Refugee Camp just south of Tindouf experienced a sudden and powerful sonic boom in the early afternoon of November 6, 2021. The sonic phenomena was also heard by many who lived nearby in both Mauritania and Western Sahara. A short time later numerous extremely fresh meteorites were recovered in northern Mauritania close to the border region.
Please note closer to 150 kg of material was ultimately recovered, and an effort is currently underway to have EHOH 002 reclassified as a fall. In the meantime, here is a terrific example of an inexpensive freshly fallen meteorite wrapped in 90+% graphite-hued fusion crust.
