44. BELMONT — PARTIAL SLICE

H6
Belmont, Wisconsin
Found 1958 / TKW: 2.3 kg

Belmont is one of only ten meteorites recovered in Wisconsin. And like many meteorites, it was recovered after having been struck by a plow. Belmont later landed at the University of New Mexico after having been acquired by the legendary founding Director of the Institute of Meteoritics, Dr. Lincoln LaPaz. The milk chocolate-hued matrix of this partial slice is embellished with a seemingly infinite number of minute metallic flakes and is further accented with larger yet subtle threads of iron-nickel. The Institute of Meteoritics Collection catalog ID (“CHO.2C”) appears on the rim of the external surface.
