27. NWA 8370 — COMPLETE SLICE OF A SHOCKED MEDIUM OCTAHEDRITE
IIIAB
Sahara Desert, Morocco
Found 2011 / TKW: 15.25 kg
Like all iron meteorites, this specimen originated from the core of a differentiated asteroid which no longer exists and whose fragments are part of the asteroid belt — except those fragments that landed on Earth and possibly Mars and Jupiter. Unlike the majority of IIIAB irons, NWA 8370 is heavily shocked with extensive cross-hatching of kamacite.
