51. ESTACADO — PARTIAL SLICE WITH MUSEUM PROVENANCE
H6
Hale County, Texas
Found 1883 / TKW: 290 kg
The main mass of Estacado was acquired by New York City’s American Museum of Natural History from which this terrific specimen had been deaccessioned. Long prior to landing in Texas, Estacado has been sufficiently heated to melt and recrystallize its chondrules and homogenize its mineral compositions. The meteorite’s external surface arcs across the crown of this specimen and a cool ebony matrix with thousands of tiny grains of iron-nickel are seemingly dusted across the meteorite’s cut and polished surface.
141 x 129 x 4mm (5.5 x 5 x 0.1 inches) and 273.9 grams (0.6 lbs.)
